H&M Presents Strong Start 2016

The Academy of Health and Medicine in conjunction with Stanford University proudly offers Strong Start 2016.  Strong Start introduces students to high school and prepares them for the challenges they will face in a rigorous academic environment. The Strong Start experience is built around work by Stanford University professor Dr. Carol Dweck.  Each morning students will engage in a variety of activities designed to help them understand that a growth mindset is key for success in high school and in life. These sessions will be facilitated by Stanford graduate students and trained Health and Medicine students. If you are interested in learning more about mindset click here.   Additionally students will meet many of their teachers, take a tour of the campus where they will be shown their classrooms, learn how to open their lockers and get a general overview of the high school.  We will have question and answer sessions to help students build confidence and feel comfortable when school starts in August.

After lunch the focus will be on a specific academic area. All students will receive instruction in the proper use of technology in the classroom. They will be trained in Google Apps For Education (GAFE) which includes teaching students how to create, manipulate and submit documents in Microsoft word, Excell and power point.  Additional days will be devoted to the development of successful study skills as well as summer bridge work in math and English.

Strong Start runs Monday - Thursday August 1st - August 4th from 9:00am  - 2:00pm. Students should bring a lunch.  The Academy of Health and Medicine will provide breakfast each day.  Due to the progressive nature of what we are teaching all students are required to attend at least three of the four days.  If there is a problem please feel free to contact India Rodgers at irodgers@slzusd.org or Selina Mandel at smandel@slzusd.org

We are very excited to begin working with your student. Be sure to register today. To RSVP just click on the link and you will be connected to our registration form.

We look forward to seeing everyone on August 1st at 9:00am!
